Truecaller has announced the removal of its popular call recording feature from iOS devices, effective September 30, 2025. The decision, confirmed through official communications and notifications within the app, comes over two years after launch and underscores evolving priorities for Truecaller as well as ongoing challenges with Apple’s operating system.
Call recording on iOS has long faced technical and policy barriers. Unlike Android, where such features are relatively simple to implement, Apple’s stringent privacy protocols prevent third-party apps from recording calls directly. As a workaround, Truecaller used a merged call system (via an external recording line), which increased complexity and operating costs for users and the company alike.
Truecaller is urging all iPhone users to take action before the end-of-September deadline. After this date, saved call recordings will no longer be accessible within the app. Users can:
Download and transfer their existing recordings to their device storage or iCloud.
Share recordings via email or messaging apps for safe-keeping.
Review the company’s support page for step-by-step instructions and troubleshooting tips for saving content before the feature’s sunset.
With the 2024 iOS 18.1 update, Apple introduced its own call recording and transcription features for users in select regions. Apple’s native system, powered by Apple Intelligence, is more seamless and does not require third-party workarounds.
Truecaller now aims to “double down” on its strengths real-time caller identification and spam call blocking etched out as top user needs in recent reports and analytics.
iOS currently accounts for 44% of Truecaller’s premium revenue, but complexity and costs in maintaining the call recording feature contributed to the business decision to discontinue it.
Despite the end of call recording, iPhone users will continue to benefit from other Truecaller features:
Enhanced spam identification and blocking tools.
AI-powered Truecaller Assistant for call screening.
Improved caller ID for identifying unknown callers.
Users seeking continued call recording functionalities may explore Apple’s native options (available on compatible iPhones with iOS 18.1+) or alternative recording solutions authorized by Apple’s guidelines.
