
At the Apple annual event yesterday, the iPhone 17 series was launched globally, including in India. Apple unveiled its newest smartphone lineup during its 'Awe Dropping' event on Tuesday. As is customary, Apple reduces the prices of its previous models when a new generation of iPhones is released. This year is no different, with the prices of last year's iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus dropping after the iPhone 17 series was introduced.
The cost of the iPhone 16 in India has decreased to Rs. 69,900 for the 128GB storage version. The 256GB model has been phased out and will now only be available with the iPhone 16 Plus. Additionally, the 512GB storage option has been discontinued for both models.
According to the official company website, the iPhone 16 Plus now starts at Rs. 79,900 in India for the 128GB base model, while the 256GB version is priced at Rs. 89,900. Both phones are available in Black, Pink, Teal, Ultramarine, and White colors and can be purchased through the Apple online store. For reference, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus were released in September 2024.
At launch, the iPhone 16 was priced at Rs. 79,900 in India for the 128GB base model, with the 256GB and 512GB versions priced at Rs. 89,900 and Rs. 1,09,900, respectively. Conversely, the iPhone 16 Plus was initially priced at Rs. 89,900 for the 128GB base model, with the 256GB and 512GB options costing Rs. 99,900 and Rs. 1,19,900, respectively.
The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus feature dual SIM (Nano + eSIM) and are powered by Apple’s new A18 chip with a 6-core CPU, 5-core GPU, and 16-core Neural Engine. Both models support Apple Intelligence features previously exclusive to Pro variants.
They sport 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR OLED displays with up to 2,000 nits peak brightness, Ceramic Shield protection, and the Dynamic Island. New additions include an Action Button on the left and a Camera Control button on the right for easier zoom, capture, and video recording.
The dual rear camera system includes a 48MP wide lens and 12MP ultra-wide lens with macro and spatial video support. A 12MP TrueDepth front camera handles selfies. Both phones come with IP68 water resistance, USB-C, and full support for 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth connectivity.
