

Meta Platforms has struck a landmark infrastructure agreement to roll out 6 gigawatts of AI data center capacity built on Advanced Micro Devices silicon, delivering a high-profile competitive boost as AMD intensifies its challenge to Nvidia in the AI accelerator market.

The long-term agreement will support Meta's upcoming AI computing advancements, involving several generations of AMD Instinct GPUs and 6th Gen AMD EPYC processors, known as 'Venice' and 'Verano.' These systems will operate on AMD's ROCm software platform and will be implemented using the company's Helios rack-scale architecture.
The first 1-gigawatt tranche of capacity is slated to come online in the second half of 2026, signaling a phased but substantial expansion of Meta’s AI infrastructure footprint.
Advanced Micro Devices and Meta Platforms will work jointly across silicon design, system architecture, and software to fine-tune AI platforms for Meta’s specific workloads. As part of the agreement, AMD has granted Meta a performance-based warrant covering up to 160 million AMD shares, with vesting tied to defined shipment milestones and contingent on both technical execution and commercial targets.
“This partnership accelerates one of the industry’s largest AI deployments and places AMD at the center of the global AI buildout,” said AMD CEO Lisa Su. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg described it as a “long-term partnership” focused on deploying efficient inference compute while broadening and diversifying Meta’s AI infrastructure.
The structure of the deal gives Meta the option to acquire up to a 10 percent equity stake in AMD, underscoring a broader shift in the AI sector as chip suppliers and hyperscale customers increasingly align financially to lock in supply and accelerate scaling. Over the next five years, Meta is set to procure AMD chips and AI-optimized computing systems, with each gigawatt-scale deployment carrying a price tag in the tens of billions of dollars.
The agreement deepens an existing strategic relationship between the two companies and marks a significant milestone in Meta’s global AI infrastructure expansion, aimed at delivering efficient, scalable, and purpose-built compute for next-generation AI workloads.
