Meta has started notifying thousands of employees about fresh layoffs as the company accelerates its AI-focused restructuring under CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
The Facebook and Instagram parent company plans to cut nearly 8,000 jobs globally, with engineering and product teams expected to be among the worst affected. At the same time, around 7,000 employees are being reassigned to newly created AI-focused divisions.
Reports suggest the layoffs began in Singapore, where some employees received emails at 4 am local time, with notifications expected to continue across Europe and the US. Meta has also reportedly encouraged some teams to work remotely during the transition.
The restructuring comes as Meta commits over $100 billion toward AI infrastructure and automation to compete with rivals like OpenAI and Google.
The changes, however, have sparked concerns among employees and investors alike, with staff reporting anxiety over repeated layoffs while analysts question whether Meta’s massive AI spending will deliver returns.
