On Thursday, Ola Electric announced its entry into India’s ₹1 trillion battery energy storage systems (BESS) market with the launch of Ola Shakti, its first residential energy solution. Ola stated, “We have built world-class battery and cell technology for electric mobility. Ola Shakti extends that innovation to homes, helping them store and use clean energy intelligently.”
Ola Shakti comes in configurations of 1.5 kWh, 3 kWh, 5.2 kWh, and 9.1 kWh, with initial pricing for the first 10,000 units as follows: ₹29,999 for 1.5 kWh, ₹55,999 for 3 kWh, ₹119,999 for 5.2 kWh, and ₹159,999 for 9.1 kWh. Reservations began on Thursday at ₹999, with deliveries anticipated to start from Makar Sankranti next year.
As India's Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) market is anticipated to expand to more than ₹3 trillion by 2030, Ola Electric foresees its yearly BESS usage increasing to 5 Gigawatt hours (GWh) in the coming years. Ola Shakti is India's inaugural residential Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) that is entirely designed, engineered, and produced domestically. It utilizes the cutting-edge 4680 Bharat Cell and robust, efficient automotive battery packs.
In a regulatory filing, Ola also said, “Ola Shakti is a natural next step for us as we leverage our existing 4680 cell technology, Gigafactory production capabilities, and nationwide Ola network as a ready sales and distribution backbone, ensuring rapid scale without any incremental investment.”
