Samsung has unveiled its first AI-powered smart glasses, called Intelligent Eyewear, at the Galaxy Unpacked event in London. The device, developed in partnership with Google and eyewear brands Gentle Monster and Warby Parker, is powered by Google's Gemini AI and Android XR platform.
Samsung has not announced the pricing or an exact release date. The company plans to launch the smart glasses later this year, with the United States and South Korea expected to be among the first markets.
Unlike many augmented reality devices, Samsung's smart glasses do not include a display. Instead, they rely on voice interaction, a built-in 12-megapixel camera and speakers. Powered by Google Gemini, the glasses can:
Summarise messages and notifications
Translate conversations in real time
Provide navigation through voice guidance
Capture notes and organise them in Samsung Notes
Share a first-person view during video calls
The device is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 processor and offers up to nine hours of battery life on a single charge. Additional charging is provided through the accompanying charging case.
Most AI features require pairing with a compatible Samsung Galaxy smartphone, while gesture controls are supported through the Galaxy Watch 9.
Samsung has included a visible LED indicator that activates whenever the camera is in use. The camera also automatically switches off when the glasses are removed. Samsung has not confirmed the final price, although industry reports estimate it could be priced between $379 and $499.
The smart glasses represent Samsung's first consumer hardware running Google's Android XR operating system. The company is entering a market currently led by Meta's Ray-Ban smart glasses and is positioning the device as a premium AI wearable focused on voice-based assistance rather than display-based augmented reality.
