Samsung might finally address one of the biggest pain points in Apple-to-Android file transfers, as it reportedly works on bringing AirDrop-like support to Galaxy devices. Expected to debut with the Galaxy S26 series via a software update, the feature could enable seamless media sharing between Samsung phones and iPhones, eliminating the need for third-party apps and significantly improving cross-platform connectivity.
As reported by EBN News Centre in Korean, Won-joon Choi, the President and COO of Samsung's mobile division, mentioned at a press event in Japan that the feature might be introduced gradually. Once implemented, users will be able to exchange videos, photos, and documents between Galaxy phones and Apple devices using Samsung's Quick Share feature.
Earlier, multiple online leaks hinted at a similar update, indicating that the new feature is anticipated to be compatible with iPhone, Mac computers, and iPad. Users will need to activate AirDrop visibility on their Apple devices, while Samsung smartphones might temporarily disconnect from Wi-Fi.
Google has enabled Pixel devices to share files with iPhones using peer-to-peer transfers and plans to expand this feature to more Android devices. Meanwhile, Apple’s AirDrop continues to offer fast, seamless sharing within its ecosystem, helping retain users and even influence buying decisions. Samsung, on the other hand, has been promoting its Smart Switch tool to simplify data transfers from iPhones to Galaxy devices.
