Amid the ongoing wave of tech layoffs, a post on X (formerly Twitter) sparked unexpected excitement online — claiming that Tesla has over 45 job openings in Pune. The post, shared by a social media user read: “In Pune, there are 45+ open job postings for Tesla. All are technical and software positions. Looks like Tesla is expanding quietly in Pune.”
The post quickly went viral, fueling speculation about Tesla’s possible expansion in India and raising questions about the authenticity of the claims. Social media discussions suggest growing optimism around potential job creation, as listings referencing Tesla have appeared across various employment portals.
However, checks on Tesla’s official careers page and LinkedIn show a handful of openings but nowhere near the 45 claimed in the viral post. Tesla, the company run by business tycoon Elon Musk, is headquartered in Austin, Texas, in the United States of America (USA).
According to media reports, Tesla is actively exploring opportunities to expand its presence in India, with Maharashtra emerging as a key focus. Pune’s established IT ecosystem and concentration of private sector companies make it an attractive location for the company. Sources indicate that Tesla has leased a 5,850 sq. ft. office space in Pune and listed several job openings on their site, signaling a growing local footprint.
However multiple official sources emphasize that no final decision regarding manufacturing has been confirmed. And many of the advertised positions are likely remote roles, suggesting that the job listings themselves are legitimate even if a full-scale Pune expansion has not yet materialized. Authorities in the district advise caution, urging job seekers to verify listings before sharing personal information.
The official Tesla website confirms that there are job openings in Pune. It lists four available positions: Supplier Industrialisation Engineer (Wire Harness/Power Distribution Systems), Supplier Industrialisation Engineer (Electronics), Site Reliability Engineer, and Supplier Industrialisation Engineer (Battery Material Manufacturing). These roles are also open in Kochi and Bengaluru.
