The September 11 attacks had traumatised the USA and had a big impact worldwide as it was one of the most terrible attacks ever. 2020 marks the 19th anniversary of the 9/11 attack in which 3,000 people were killed when hijackers hovered airplanes into New York's World Trade Centre, the Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania.
Several monuments, memorials have been constructed to commemorate the victims of the attacks. On its 19th anniversary, one of the Museum in New York, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum on its Twitter handle wrote, "Nineteen years ago, under clear blue skies, 102 minutes changed our lives forever. On Fri., Sept. 11, we lead the nation and the world in observing the 19th anniversary of the 2001 attacks and ask you to join us in commemorating."
This year, amid the COVID-19 crisis, New York City will hold its ceremony remembering the people who lost their life. This year, the ceremony will be a little restricted. Speakers will still be there for the reading of names but no stage will be built to the solemn incident. Instead, hand sanitiser stations are installed by the crew.
With no stage this year amid the USA topping the rank in the worst-hit country in terms of COVID-19 cases, family members have pre-recorded victims’ names, which will be streamed online. Victims’ families can still come together in person at the memorial and perceive the names of their loved ones read aloud, as groups will be safely spread out. The ringing of bells, telling each attack on 9/11, will still ring out too, complete with the guard of honour. Other members of the people will be permitted on the grounds around 3 pm until midnight. All other large gatherings will be banned. On Saturday, the museum will open to the general public, with scheduled tickets and all social distancing norms required.
9/11 attacks were one of the worst in history, which killed 3,000 people and others from different nations and over 6,000 people left injured. The 9/11 attacks changed the world approach and strategy towards tackling terrorism and its committers.
