Spidey needs help

Alisha Shinde

Marvel fans have united on all social media platforms to make sure that they are heard loud and clear. The trigger is the failure of the talks between the Disney-owned studio and rival Sony to share Spider-Man. The move has not gone down well with fans and ever since netizens have taken to Twitter. They are expressing their demand to save Spider man which has even led to #SaveSpidey and #SaveSpiderMan trends on Twitter.

The Marvel movies featuring Spider-Man have grossed $22 billion at the global box office, and British actor Tom Holland’s Spider-Man has become the central figure in this most lucrative franchise in film history.

The teen web-slinger has for decades been the “crown jewel” of the Marvel comic book empire on which the films are based but Sony owns the character’s movie rights. Spider-Man only began appearing in Marvel’s “cinematic universe” after an almost unprecedented, and still highly secretive, deal was struck in 2015 between the Hollywood giants, with both studios co-producing and splitting profits across the films. However, that partnership has now broken up following Disney and Sony’s failure to agree on financial terms for future films.

MCU and Spider-Man fans have flooded Twitter with sad memes, expressing their anger and disappointment over Spdiey’s exit. While a user tweeted, “Tony Stark did not die for this”, another one pointed out that he is contacting Stan Lee to look into the matter. One thing is for sure that all fans are requesting Marvel not to let Spider-Man go since he is one of the best characters of the franchise. Now it’s up to the studios to save Spidey.
