Akshay Kumar tests positive for COVID-19

Mumbai: Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar on Sunday tested positive for coronavirus. Khiladi Kumar on Sunday took to Twitter to make the announcement.

He wrote, "I wish to inform everyone that, earlier this morning, I have tested positive for COVID-19. Following all the protocols, I have immediately isolated myself. I'm under home quarantine and have sought necessary medical care. I would sincerely request all those that have come in contact with me to get themselves tested and take care. Back in action very soon."

Akshay, one of the busiest actors in Bollywood had been shooting for his upcoming movie Ram Setu along with Jacqueline Fernandez and Nushrat Bharucha. He plays an archaeologist in the much-awaited movie.

Apart from this, Akshay Kumar also has Rohit Shetty’s action-packed Sooryavanshi and Aanand L Rai’s multi-starrer Atrange Re lined up for release.

Akshay Kumar is the latest Bollywood star to test positive for the infection. Recently, Aamir Khan, Alia Bhatt, Kartik Aaryan and many others tested positive.

This comes after Akshay Kumar's hoetown Mumbai also registered 9,108 new infections, the highest spike in a single day on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra is witnessing a strong second wave of coronavirus cases. The state, on Saturday recorded 49,447 fresh cases, the highest rise in a day so far, taking the tally to 29,53,523 while 277 deaths pushed the toll to 55,656, according to the state health department.
