R Madhavan receives honour for contribution to arts, cinema

The 50-year-old actor received the Doctor of Letters (D Litt) at D Y Patil Education Society, Kolhapur’s ninth convocation ceremony.

Even though R Madhavan’s character on 3 Idiots didn’t graduate with the rest of his class, on Wednesday, the actor wore a convocation gown and the Oxford cap as he got conferred with Doctor of Letters (D Litt).

Madhavan received the honour for his outstanding contribution to Arts and Cinema by D Y Patil Education Society, Kolhapur, at their ninth convocation ceremony. At the ceremony, the 3 Idiots actor said, "I am truly humbled by this honour. This will only motivate me to keep pushing the envelope and challenging myself with newer projects.”

Expressing his gratitude for the honour, he tweeted to the director of D Y Patil Group, Ruturaj S Patil, and said, “Thank you so very much for the honor love and affection. It has been such a memorable day in my life. Thank you again bro. (sic)”

On Thursday, the actor took to Instagram and shared pictures of the ceremony with his fans, with caption, “So very humbled and grateful on being conferred the degree of Doctor of Letters (D. Litt.) by DY Patil Education Society, Kolhapur . This is an honor and a responsibility now. (sic)”.

Currently, Madhavan is awaiting the release of his directorial debut Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, based on the life of Nambi Narayanan, a former scientist and aerospace engineer of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), who was accused of espionage. Besides direction, Madhavan has written, produced and acted in the project.
