Shefali Shah and Harsh Chhaya were married in the early 1990s, at a time when she was still building her career in films and television. The marriage did not last long. Speaking about that phase, Shah said she realised she was trying too hard to adjust. “I realised that I am not pizza,” she said, explaining that she could not keep reshaping herself to suit another person.

The actor also spoke about the fear many people have of being alone and how that fear often forces them to stay in unhappy relationships. She said she reached a point where the choice was clear. “If I have to spend my life alone, I would choose that,” Shah said, adding that loneliness felt less frightening than losing self respect.

Over the years, Shefali Shah has said that walking out of that marriage taught her important lessons about self worth and boundaries. She has maintained that the experience made her emotionally stronger and more certain about what she wanted from life and relationships. The actor later married filmmaker Vipul Amrutlal Shah, with whom she has shared a long and stable partnership.

On social media, many users have responded to Shah’s words with admiration, calling her honest and relatable. Several women said her statement reflected what many feel but hesitate to say aloud. As Shefali Shah continues to be celebrated for her powerful performances on screen, her personal clarity off screen has found an audience of its own.
