As the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) appeared set to emerge as the single largest party in Tamil Nadu, Vijay's family was seen in a jubilant mood. His family members were spotted dancing and singing the song 'Whistle Podu' from his film 'The Greatest of All Time.
What Vijay's mother said
Speaking to news agency ANI, Shoba Chandrasekhar, mother of TVK chief Vijay, responded to the latest counting trends that show TVK in the lead. Radiating joy, she smiled and said, “I am so happy.” His father, SA Chandrasekhar, added, “She is not just his mother; she is Vijay’s first fan. She is extremely happy...”
Chandrasekhar, who helped launch his son's career as a child actor in the 1980s, said that for the past 30 years Vijay had aspired to "do something for Tamil Nadu," a goal that has now resulted in a remarkable debut in the State’s elections. "I am inspired. As a human being, you should not only be an artist, you should also have a sense of social responsibility. For the last 30 years, he (Vijay) has carried this thought in his mind, that he must do something for Tamil Nadu, and he has gradually grown into it. Today, he is going to become Chief Minister," Chandrasekhar said.
Chandrasekhar said, "Over the past two years, his confidence has been remarkable, along with his conviction that he will become the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. I appreciate that mindset. As a leader, his courage lies in his decision to stand independently without any alliance. I believe this is a historic achievement, a historic victory for Vijay."
Tamil people loved him not only as a leader. Every woman regarded him as her own son, and people saw him as their own brother. Even those in their sixties considered him a grandson; he had built that kind of bond with the public, he said.
TVK, or Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, appeared set for a landmark debut as it led in over 130 constituencies in Tamil Nadu, crossing the majority threshold of 118. The 2026 Tamil Nadu election took place in a single phase on April 23, coinciding with the first phase of voting in West Bengal. Vijay, widely known as ‘Thalapathy’, has emerged as a significant player in Tamil Nadu politics, propelled by his massive fan following.
