Pimpri-Chinchwad: A massive fire at a scrap warehouse in Chikhli-Kudalwadi has sparked political controversy, with MLA Mahesh Landge claiming that workers employed in these establishments include Bangladeshi infiltrators and Rohingyas.

The fire, which sent thick plumes of smoke visible from several kilometers, brought attention to the repeated incidents of fire in the Chikhli-Kudalwadi area.

Speaking on the issue, Landge alleged that numerous illegal scrap warehouses have been operating in the locality without authorization.

“This is a matter of grave concern for the safety and security of the city,” Landge stated in a written appeal to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. He demanded immediate administrative action against these illegal establishments and the workers employed there.

He further emphasized, “We will ensure a thorough follow-up on this issue. The administration must act promptly to prevent any further mishaps and secure the area.”

The MLA’s claims have added a new dimension to the ongoing discourse on unauthorized scrap warehouses, raising questions about the legal and safety implications of such operations.

Local residents have echoed similar concerns about the recurring fire incidents and the lack of effective regulation in the area.

Meanwhile, PCMC officials refused to comment on the issue of illegal warehouses stating that their priority is to douse the fire first and then comment on other issues.
