Pune: BJP Leader and Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil has urged citizens to stay vigilant against the threat of Bangladeshi infiltrators in Pune and Mumbai. Speaking at a program organized by the Pune Police's Western Regional Division on Wednesday (January 22), Patil highlighted that Bangladeshi nationals are often found operating as street vendors and laborers, posing security risks.
Patil made these remarks while addressing an event where property worth ₹3.84 crore, recovered from 300 solved criminal cases, was returned to the complainants. The event was attended by senior police officials, including Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, Joint Commissioner Ranjankumar Sharma, and Additional Commissioner Praveenkumar Patil.
"Many people fail to recognize that the street vendor or laborer near their home could be a Bangladeshi national. It is essential for citizens to act responsibly and report any suspicions to the police. The rapid growth of Pune's population and urban expansion have introduced new challenges. To address this, the government is working to bolster the police force. In the coming months, 1,000 new police constables will be deployed in Pune," Patil stated.
Action Against Bangladeshi Infiltrators Intensified
Patil also announced that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed authorities to take stringent action against Bangladeshi infiltrators. Measures are being taken to identify and deport these individuals, and efforts are underway to prevent further illegal immigration. "Action against Bangladeshi nationals in Pune and Mumbai will intensify, following directives from the Chief Minister," he added.
Strengthening Police Resources
Acknowledging the need for increased manpower, Patil highlighted the government's plans to enhance the resources of the Pune Police Department. With the addition of 1,000 new constables and improved infrastructure, the police force aims to address rising challenges effectively.
