Pune: The Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME) celebrated its 82nd Corps Day at the Southern Command Headquarters on October 15, 2024.

The event marked over 80 years of committed service to the Indian Army and was attended by Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal awardee and Army Commander, Southern Command, along with other senior dignitaries.

Established in 1943, the EME Corps has been instrumental in maintaining the operational readiness of the Indian Army by ensuring the effective repair and upkeep of military equipment.

Over the decades, the Corps has honed a strong Combat Force Regeneration capability, vital in modern warfare, and continues to provide essential engineering support across all levels—from individual units to Army Base Workshops.

The EME is responsible for the maintenance of various critical military assets, including small arms, missile systems, main battle tanks, and aviation equipment.

The Corps’ ability to function in extreme conditions, whether in deserts or at high altitudes, has contributed significantly to the Indian Army’s high state of combat readiness.

In addition to its technical expertise, the EME Corps has produced several remarkable athletes, such as Padma Shri Milkha Singh, known as the ‘Flying Sikh,’ and Major HPS Ahluwalia, a prominent figure in India’s 1965 Mount Everest expedition.

A special highlight of the event was the presence of Padma Shri awardee Murlikant Petkar, an EME veteran and India’s first Paralympic gold medalist.

Petkar, who won the gold in the 50-meter freestyle swimming event at the 1972 Paralympics, continues to inspire generations of Para-athletes and embodies the EME Corps motto, ‘KARAM HI DHARAM.’

Addressing the gathering, Lieutenant General Seth praised the dedication and achievements of all ranks of the EME Corps, urging them to continue their legacy of excellence and strive for even greater accomplishments in the future.
