Pune: Sassoon General Hospital has initiated strict measures to verify its medicine stock following the exposure of counterfeit drugs supplied to Swami Ramanand Teerth Government Hospital in Ambajogai, Beed district.

The hospital administration has decided to test all existing medicines with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to ensure patient safety.

The scandal involves banned supplier Vishal Enterprises, which had reportedly supplied medicines to Sassoon as well. Although the manufacturers for Sassoon differ, the distributor remains the same, necessitating a complete stock review.

The hospital is inspecting the following items supplied by Vishal Enterprises:

  • Painkiller injections: 4,040 units (Diclofenac)

  • Anti-seizure tablets: 1,440 units (Midazolam)

  • Children’s calcium syrup: 120 bottles

  • Steroid tablets: 5,000 units (Dexamethasone)

  • Pregnancy-related tablets: 7,500 units (Misoprostol)

Dr. Yallappa Jadhav, Medical Superintendent of Sassoon General Hospital, stated that the administration has decided to halt all purchases from Vishal Enterprises.

The hospital is collaborating with the Food and Drug Administration for the inspection process.

On Tuesday (December 10), a video conference was held with the Commissioner to address the issue. The meeting emphasized:

  • Collecting detailed information on medicines purchased locally.

  • Gathering supplier and company details to ensure authenticity.

The Sassoon administration acted immediately by compiling the required data and starting the verification process.

In light of the counterfeit drugs case, the stock at Aundh District Hospital was also examined. District Surgeon Dr. Nagnath Yampalle confirmed that no medicines had been procured from Vishal Enterprises, and all suppliers were found to comply with safety standards.
