Pune: A 29-year-old cleaner of a private passenger bus lost his life after falling from the roof of the vehicle on Ganeshkhind Road. The Chatuhshrungi Police have arrested the bus driver for negligence leading to death.

The deceased, identified as Sanket Devidas Chailwal, was a resident of Masod, Amravati district. The accused driver, Bablu Hamidmiya Maktewale (33), from Hudgi, Bidar district, Karnataka, has been taken into custody following a complaint lodged by police personnel Vikas Ingle.

The incident took place at approximately 4:15 AM on Friday when a private passenger bus traveling from Mumbai to Hyderabad was passing through Ganeshkhind Road. Near the Vaikunthbhai Mehta Institute, a hanging wire from an overhead structure got entangled on the bus roof.

To clear the obstruction, the driver instructed Sanket to climb onto the bus roof and remove the wire. While Sanket was still on the roof, the bus was being driven out from under the structure. At that moment, the driver suddenly applied the brakes, causing Sanket to lose balance and fall onto the road. He suffered serious head injuries.

Assistant Police Inspector Shamal Patil and his team arrived at the scene upon receiving information about the accident. Sanket was rushed to the hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries before receiving treatment.
