Pune: The Hind Yuvak Mitra Mandal of Guruwar Peth in Pune has canceled the customary Ganesh idol immersion procession this year.

Instead, the organization has chosen to dedicate resources to educational and health-related initiatives, aiming to create greater health awareness among the community.

The decision to cancel the immersion procession, a significant shift from traditional celebrations, was driven by a desire to utilize the funds for the benefit of those in need.

The expenses originally allocated for the procession are now being used to support educational activities and promote health awareness, with a series of events planned over the ten-day Ganesh festival.

Acknowledging the financial constraints faced by many families in accessing healthcare, the organization plans to distribute free Urban Poor Medical Assistance Scheme cards to 120 individuals. This initiative was announced by the Mandal's President Rohan Shinde and Vice President Hari Memane.

Among the key events planned is a health and blood donation camp on Sunday (September 8). This camp will offer comprehensive services, including blood tests, free eye check-ups, the distribution of free spectacles, free cataract surgeries, and free breast cancer screenings for women.

Furthermore, on Monday, September 9, the organization will distribute school supplies to the children of Devadasis, furthering its commitment to community welfare.

This initiative marks a notable move towards prioritizing public health and education during the festival season, reflecting a broader trend of socially responsible celebrations.

The Hind Yuvak Mitra Mandal hopes that their efforts will inspire other organizations to consider similar approaches in future festivals.
