A full emergency was declared at Indira Gandhi International Airport on Saturday after a Visakhapatnam-Delhi IndiGo flight made an emergency landing following an engine failure.
An emergency was declared at 10:39 am for IndiGo flight 6E 579 from Visakhapatnam to Delhi after one of its engines failed, prompting an emergency landing. The aircraft, a Boeing 737, touched down at 10:54 am. Approximately 161 passengers were on board, and all were assisted by the airline and the Delhi International Airport operations team.
According to the airline’s statement, an IndiGo spokesperson reported that a technical issue was identified shortly before the flight’s landing, resulting in a priority landing.
“As a precautionary measure and in line with standard operating procedures, the pilots requested a priority landing, and the aircraft touched down safely at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi,” the spokesperson stated.
The airline further stated that all appropriate authorities had been notified and that the aircraft is currently undergoing required inspections and maintenance.
Earlier this month, an Air India Express flight operating a regular service from Hyderabad to Phuket lost its nose wheels following a hard landing. The aircraft remained stuck on the Phuket airport runway for several hours, leading to a temporary suspension of airport operations.
In a comparable incident last month, a SpiceJet flight from Delhi to Leh was forced to make an emergency landing at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport shortly after takeoff due to an engine malfunction. Flight SG-121, carrying approximately 150 passengers, touched down safely.
