PUNE: With continuous rainfall this year, Maharashtra has recorded 141 per cent excess rainfall post-monsoon (between October 1 to November 7). Drought-prone Marathwada has reported 233 per cent excess rainfall during this time where all districts in the region have received more than 200 mm rainfall as per India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Beed district in Marathwada also reported a total of 325.8 mm of rainfall which is 323 per cent in excess which was one of the worst drought-hit districts in the region.

Speaking about the post-monsoon rains, Anupam Kashyapi, Head of Weather at IMD said that the monsoon started withdrawing by October 8.

“The monsoon withdrawal has for the first time history delayed so much, which brought continued rainfall in the State in October. Followed by the withdrawal, there are many weather systems active over the State, including cyclones in the Arabian Sea and rainfall in the State due to this,” said Kashyapi.

Post-monsoon rains in the State were in excess in many parts with central Maharashtra reporting 189 per cent excess rainfall between October 1 to November 7.

Pune district also reported 190 per cent of excess rainfall during this period. A total of 241.2 mm rainfall was reported at this time. All districts in the region also reported excess rainfall.

Solapur district in central Maharashtra also reported 286.3 mm rainfall between October 1 to November 7. This district in central Maharashtra was the only district which reported large deficiency of rainfall during the monsoon period.

VIDARBHA
The Vidarbha region has reported five per cent excess rainfall. Yavatmal, Wardha, Nagpur, Gondia and Bhandara reported a deficiency in rainfall during the post-monsoon season. Other districts in the region received normal to large excess rainfall.
