Pune: According to data furnished by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the seasonal rainfall from June 1 till date has been six per cent less than the expected rainfall across the country. In Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha have recorded two per cent and 25 per cent deficiency in rainfall, respectively, during the same period.

The north-west region and central India have recorded nine per cent deficient rainfall. The southern peninsula has recorded three per cent deficiency and the east and north-east regions of the country have recorded one per cent deficiency in seasonal rainfall.

On September 17, Konkan and Goa region, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada may experience rainfall, while thunderstorms and rainfall are likely to occur in Marathwada and Vidarbha. The IMD has also issued a warning for heavy rainfall at some places in Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan and Goa region between September 18 and September 20.

In the State, seasonal rainfall recorded in Konkan and Goa region and Madhya Maharashtra is above normal. However, the rainfall recorded over Marathwada and Vidarbha is deficient. 
The IMD on Saturday said the southwest monsoon has been active over Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Vidarbha, west Madhya Pradesh, Rayalaseema, coastal Karnataka and Kerala. 

However, it has been subdued over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, sub-himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

On the country, as a whole, rainfall is likely at most places over Andaman and Nicobar islands and along the west coast. Rainfall is expected at many places over central and east India. Isolated to scattered rain is likely over rest of the country, stated the IMD.
