Devendra Fadnavis: Uddhav Thackeray government will fall under its own weight

Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Assembly Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday in his video-press conference overruled roars that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was trying to tumble the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government, forecasting instead that it will 'fall under its own weight'.

“No one is trying to weaken the state government, it will fall under its own weight,” he said. The remarks by Fadnavis came a day after Rajya Sabha MP, Narayan Rane, called upon the Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari to enforce President's Rule in Maharashtra, owing to the falling COVID-19 graph.

Earlier, Rahul Gandhi in an online press conference has said that Congress is not a key decision-maker in the Shiv Sena-led government in Maharashtra.

Fadnavis also commented on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's remarks on his party's role in the government of Maharashtra. He said, "The Congress actually wanted to run away from the shared responsibility for the government's failure".

"Rahul Gandhi wanted to blame only Shiv Sena and Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray”, he added.

NO HURRY IN FORMING GOVERNMENT

The former CM also explained that the BJP was not in a hurry to form government in Maharashtra.

"We are not in a hurry to form a government in Maharashtra. This government will fall due to its own contradictions and due to lack of coordination," the Opposition leader explained.

Fadnavis said theoretical comments such as Opposition trying to de-stabilise the current government are being purposefully made to distract the attention of people from the government's failure.  He further said that this is not the correct time for politics. "The BJP's focus is on fighting against the coronavirus," he added.

While concluding, Fadanvis made clear that the Opposition will continue to put pressure on the Sena-led government for taking active steps to curtail the spread of COVID-19.
