Pune: Milind Ekbote of Samast Hindu Aghadi and Sambhaji Bhide of Shiv Pratishthan Hindustan, both right-wing activists are well known in Maharashtra.
On Tuesday, after several leaders from left-leaning parties and activists took their names for alleged involvement in inciting violence at Koregaon-Bhima, an FIR was registered against the duo with Pimpri police station. The FIR has been sent to Pune rural police under whose jurisdiction Koregaon-Bhima falls, for further investigation.
The complaint in this regard was lodged by social worker Anita Ravindra Savale (39), a resident of Kalewadi and a member of Bahujan Republican Socialist Party. “Around 11 am, when my friend Anjana reached Sanaswadi, the accused persons’ activists damaged our flag and they were assaulting people.
They were also throwing stones and set vehicles on fire,” states the complaint. On Tuesday, Ekbote condemned the violence in
Koregaon Bhima.
“I condemn the violence. Some extremist organisations are trying to take advantage of the situation and they are defaming me and Hindu organisations. And because of that, I am getting threatening and abusive calls. The police must investigate the incident and take action against those found guilty,” Ekbote said.
Though Sambhaji Bhide alias Guruji could not be reached for comments, Avinash Markale from Bhide’s organisation, said that he has been falsely implicated in the case. “Guruji has nothing to do with the violence. He was not in the area for last many days,” Markale added.
Complaint against Mewani, Khalid
A complaint against Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mewani and student leader Umar Khalid was submitted to Deccan Gymkhana police station on Tuesday, for allegedly inciting people through their provocative speeches at Elgar Parishad at Shaniwarwada on December 31. Bikkad Akshay (22) and Anand Dhond (25) have given the complaint against Mewani and Khalid for offences under sections 153a (promoting enmity between different groups on ground of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc) and 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Indian Penal Code. Till late night, no FIR was registered in the matter.
