Mumbai: Over 17 lakh  government employees, including 2 lakh Zilla Parishad employees and teachers will go on a three-day strike from Tuesday  to protest against the State government’s failure to fulfill their demands. 

Milind Sirdeshmukh, President of Brihanmumbai State Government Employees Co-ordination Committee announced the strike for their demands. 

“There will be a strike of all government employees and semi-government employees as the employees of municipal corporations and municipal councils will take part in the strike,” said Sirdeshmukh.  

The main demand is to implement the Seventh Pay Commission by this Diwali as announced in the Assembly instead of January. The retired age should be extended to 60 years from 58. 

“The government has failed to implement these even after assurances given to the employees’ union thrice. Every time the government assured us and did not implement it. So finally we decided to go on strike,” Sirdeshmukh said. 

Due to the strike all services including Zilla Parishad, Panchayat Samiti and ZP schools, government hospitals, primary health centres and government dairies will be affected.
