Kadam apologises to Women’s Commission

ST CORRESPONDENT

Mumbai: BJP MLA Ram Kadam has submitted an unconditional apology to the State Women’s Commission for his derogatory remarks over kidnapping of girls. During a dahi handi event earlier this month, Kadam was seen saying in a video that “I will do any kind of work you want if you like some girl and she says no to you and your parents too approve of the girl, I will kidnap her and hand her over to you.” The video was widely shared and both Kadam and his party received flak for the statement.

While the BJP is yet to clarify its stand, the Maharashtra State Commission for Women (MSCW) took suo moto action and issued a notice on September 7 asking him to clarify his stand on his remark in eight days. His clarification promises that he will work for women’s respect. “Mother and father are god for us and every woman is a Laxmi. I will work to spread the message in the society,” he said.

Vijaya Rahatkar, Chairman, MSWC said Kadam submitted his unconditional apology to the commission. “The Commission will seek legal opinion over the apology and then decide further action against him,” said Rahatkar.

“As a MLA, Kadam has to be careful while commenting in such a way that insults women,” Rahatkar said.
