The Maharashtra government gave permission to the colleges to resume classes from February 15 with 50 percent of attendance. Uday Samant, the Minister for Higher and Technical education also declared that for this academic year the government has decided to relax the 75 per cent compulsory attendance criteria.

After 10 months following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the colleges are finally reopening in Maharashtra. All the educational institute were forced to shut down due to national lockdown.

Samant said, "We have decided to restart colleges and universities in the state from February 15. The colleges can conduct physical classes with 50% students in a class."

Previously in January, Vice Chancellors of public universities in Maharashtra called for the reopening of colleges and resume classroom teaching. This happened in a meeting with Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari.
