Mumbai: Vijay Wadettiwar, Relief and Rehabilitation Minister of Maharashtra on Monday informed that the state government will decide in the next eight days whether to impose limits or a complete lockdown depending on the increase in COVID-19 cases.

He said, “After analysing the situation in the next eight days, we will decide whether there is a need for a complete lockdown or mini-lockdown.”

Talking about the resumption of local trains and travel, Wadettiwar told media persons that the government is considering whether to ban travel between the financial capital and Delhi amid the surge in cases in Delhi.

“Delhi has multiple cases and is on the brink of the second wave of COVID-19. Mumbai is an international city and it attracts people around the states. We are deliberating if there should be a complete ban (on flights and trains) or if the passengers coming into Mumbai should be asked to follow quarantine norms. All these decisions will depend on how many cases the state witness in coming days,” he added.

He also informed that currently, COVID-19 cases are rising in Pune, Mumbai, Aurangabad and Nagpur. Upcoming five to six days are crucial where the numbers will be analysed. If the numbers are on the rise, strict measures will be implemented.

Maharashtra continues to remain worst-hit state with 5,753 fresh cases of COVID-19 were reported on Sunday taking the state’s total to 17,80,208. On the other side, the death total in the state stood at 46,623.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar also said that the decision about lockdown will be made in upcoming eight-ten days.
