With Covid cases on the rise, the Maharashtra government has decided to impose weekend lockdown.

Except essential services, every other establishment will have remain shut from Friday evening 8 pm to Monday morning 6 am. Also, the government has decided to fine Rs 500 for those not wearing face masks. Also, work from home to be encouraged. While, government offices to operate with 50 per cent capacity. Restrictions on bars, restaurants and religious places.

There will be no new restrictions on traffic but public transport will run at 50 per cent capacity.

A meeting of the cabinet in Maharashtra was held on Sunday amid calls for stricter curbs around the state, which is witnessing a massive jump in daily cases of COVID.

Maharashtra reported nearly 50,000 new cases on Saturday - around 60 per cent of all cases reported from across the country.
