Maharashtra will get 102 pc rain this monsoon, says expert

ST CORRESPONDENT

Pune: The State will receive 102 per cent rains compared to the average rainfall through the south-west monsoon, according to the prediction made by Ramchandra Sabale, senior agri-meteorologist and ex-HoD of the weather department of the Agriculture College. Sabale has predicted that as Pune and Nashik districts will receive good rainfall, the Ujani, Jaikwadi and other dams will be completely filled.

Compared to the average rainfall, Konkan will receive 107 pc rains whereas western Maharashtra will receive 100 pc, northern Maharashtra 103 pc, Marathwada 102 pc, eastern Vidarbha 105 pc, central Vidarbha 102 pc and western Vidarbha 96 pc rains this season.

He said the prediction is based on the maximum temperatures, humidity in the morning and afternoon, wind speeds and time of sunlight received.

He added that during the monsoons this year, there will be more than average rain. Because of slow wind speeds during June, July and August, Pune, Rahuri, Kolhapur, Solapur, Dhule, Nifad, Jalgaon, Akola, Sindevahi and Parbhani will see large gaps in rainfall. Dapoli, Padegaon and Nagpur regions will see patchy rainfall.

The pattern will be of more rains within short spans of time with large gaps in rain in between, said Sabale.
