Mumbai airport to operate 100 flights from June 16

Chhatrapati Sivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) operating the second-largest international airfield in the country, on Monday said that the Maharashtra state government has allowed the airport to increase its flight capacity from 16 June.

Mumbai international airport limited (MIAL) said in a statement, "GVK MIAL managing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) starting 16 June is permitted to cater to a total of 100 domestic commercial passenger flight movements which includes 50 departures and 50 arrivals." 

"The move will also see an increase in the sectors that we are currently handling." It further stated.

Only 25 departures and 25 landings at Mumbai Airport have been permitted so far by the Maharashtra government, when on 25th May central government allowed to resume domestic travel - two months after the lockdown. The central government shut the operations of all the domestic flights from 24th March 2020 when it announced a nationwide lockdown.

MIAL is a joint venture between Airports Company of South Africa and GVK-led consortium of Bidvest and the State-led Airports Authority of Indian (AAI), where AAI holds 26%, GVK holds 50.5% of the majority and the two foreign partners share the remaining 23.5% of the stake.

Minister for Civil Aviation Hardeep Singh Puri said that domestic air traffic has steadily increased after domestic air travel restrictions were lifted in May.

Puri tweeted, "On 14 June, Day 21 till 2359 hours, Indian airports had handled 714 72,583 departure passengers and 714 72,439 arrival passengers. Footfalls at airports were registered to be 1,45,022 while a total number of flyers stood at 72,583."
