Mumbai: Buildings with over five patients to be sealed; BMC issues new guidelines

BMC on Thursday issued fresh guidelines as cases rise in Mumbai

Mumbai: Amid a rising number of daily cases of novel coronavirus in Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Thursday declared new guidelines to make implementation of COVID rules stricter, including limited gathering during weddings, fines for face mask violations, hand-stamps on home-quarantine patients and sealing of buildings where five or more cases are reported.

On Thursday, Mumbai reported 736 cases, the biggest number so far since the beginning of 2021. The last time Mumbai’s daily case mark crossed 700 was on December 31. Check out the detailed guidelines below:

· The BMC said stamps will be imposed on the hands of the people staying in home quarantine.

· 300 marshals will be hired to keep an eye on people travelling via local trains without mask.

· Wedding halls, restaurants and clubs will be raised to check if they are flouting rules.

· People coming back from UK, Brazil, European countries will also have to undergo compulsory institutional quarantine.

· Action against those spitting in public places BMC has doubled the number of clean-up marshals from 2,400 to 4,800.

Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar also had urged Mumbaikars to take precautions and cautioned it would be back to a new lockdown if people did not follow all provisions. Recently, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray warned that a lockdown may be imposed if the public fails to obey and follow all COVID-19 restrictions such as wearing masks in public gatherings.
