Mumbai University campus gets ready to reopen

ST Staff

Mumbai: While many students are curious about whether the final year exams will be conducted or not, Mumbai University has geared up to reopen its campus soon. The university is mulling the option of providing pick up and drop facility for its employees.

The university management has informed its employees that it will start functioning soon. In the first phase, only those employees residing near the university campus will be asked to resume their duty. The university is, therefore, collecting information about how many employees are staying in Kalina and Fort area. Employees, however, are concerned about the sanitisation of the university campus as it was used as a quarantine centre by the government during the peak of Covid-19 outbreak.

Mumbai University has sent an email to its employees and inquired about their health. University has also asked about the family details and their health conditions. The email mentions of an arrangement of car or private bus pick up and drop facility for the employees who would be joining their duties.

Since the coronavirus outbreak in Mumbai city was reported, the university had given its Kalina park hostel and IT park facility to be used as a quarantine centre by the government. A large number of COVID patients were admitted in this premise, and hence employees are scared about the infection risk.

The Mumbai University management has claimed that the entire premise is being properly sanitised. "We won't open the campus to employees unless it is completely sanitised and safe to use. We also care for our employees, and hence we are making arrangement for their transportation too," an official said on condition of anonymity.
