Rains may greet Ganesh Chaturthi in State: IMD

PUNE: According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), rains might welcome the auspicious Ganesh Chaturthi festival. IMD has predicted rainfall in most parts of the State in the coming week.

From August 25, many places in Konkan and Goa region and Vidarbha are likely to receive rainfall. Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada may receive some rain. Between August 26 to 27, some places in Konkan, Goa, and Vidarbha may receive heavy rainfall followed by good rains in Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada. 

According to IMD, the southwest monsoon has been active over Gujarat. However, it has been subdued over Marathwada, Vidarbha, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Jharkhand, Bihar, east Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and north interior of Karnataka. 

Officials also mentioned that southwest monsoon has been vigorous over Rayalaseema and active over Himachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and south interior Karnataka. Across the country, IMD also predicted that rainfall is very likely along west coast and Gujarat and over central and east India. Also, no significant change in maximum temperatures is very likely over the country during the next three days.
