State govt staff may soon have 5-day week

MUMBAI: The State government employees may have to work for five days in a week. In lieu of the five-day week, they would have to work 45 minutes extra on weekdays.

CM Uddhav Thackeray agreed on demand of the association and directed that the proposal be sent for cabinet approval.  

However, all emergency services will be excluded. Currently, staff get holidays on second and fourth Saturdays.

The proposal was discussed with the CM and government employees association. During the Fadnavis government, a high-level committee was set up to study the proposal.

It was also explained that 45 minutes of additional work would be equivalent to an extra half day’s work. The CM further assured that the filling process the vacant posts is on. The government is also considering restroom for the woman employees at Mantralaya, circular transfer of the woman employees.
