Pune: Two waiters have been arrested by Pune police for allegedly duping thousands of people by stealing their credit/debit card information when swiped for paying hotel bills. 

Police said that with the help of skimmer machine the accused had stolen information of 1,080 cards.

The arrested accused have been identified as Abdul Gaffar Ansari (27) and Khursheed Bashir Ansari (27), both natives of Jharkhand, who worked at Garwa Hotel in Purandar, Pune district. 

Police are yet to nab the two main accused — Rizwan Mehbubali Sayyed of Nalasopara in Palghar district and Musharafali of Mumbai. 

The case was first detected by Mumbai Police's Bandra Police station wherein they had arrested eight persons including six waiters from Pune and Mumbai. 

How it came to light
This arrest was made by Vishrambaug police station in Pune, based on FIR from Shayra Sikandar Shaikh (33) of Wadkinala in Haveli taluka of Pune. 

She had gone to the hotel and when she gave the card for payment, the accused had taken its details with the help of a skimmer machine. The incident came to light on the night of June 5 this year, when she lost Rs 19,000 in two transactions. 

When she checked with Bank of Baroda's Laxmi Road branch, where she had a saving account, she was asked to filed FIR. Shayra lodged the complaint on June 15.

The Vishrambaug police station took custody of the accused on Wednesday. They were produced before a magistrate court which remanded them to police custody till July 17, on Thursday.
