Uddhav Thackeray: I am not Donald Trump

ST Staff

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray in a promotional video of an interview said that it is not the President of United States of America’s Donald Trump, who can turn a blind eye to people.

“I am not [Donald] Trump; I cannot see my people suffer before my eyes,” Thackeray said in a short clip released by Raut as a teaser campaign for the upcoming two-part interview. The interview has been conducted by Sanjay Raut, executive editor of Saamana. Thackeray assured that all his decisions will be for the betterment of the people.

"The lockdown is still in place. We are giving relaxations and opening up one by one," he told Mr Raut when asked about the current status of lockdown.

Ahead of the 60th birth anniversary of Uddhav Thackeray, the head of the Shiv Sena government, the interview will be published in the Marathi daily on July 25 and July 26.

Thackeray admitted that the past six months have introduced him to a “lot of changes” including the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak which seems “unending”.

He also expressed his views on why Maharashtra cannot hold the final year examinations amid the ongoing crisis. “No one should be under the impression that students cannot be exposed to the coronavirus. Even I want exams to be held but...," Thackeray said.

Donal Trump has been criticised for having a cold shoulder to the norms and rules to combat the COVID-19. Currently the USA has 3.97 million confirmed coronavirus cases.
