Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented a pack of Melody toffees to Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Wednesday, ahead of their high-level diplomatic meeting. In the video, Meloni is heard saying, “PM Modi brought us a gift. It is Melody,” as she holds a pack of Melody chocolates presented by the Indian Prime Minister.

Meloni captioned the clip, “Thank you for the gift.” The scene rapidly attracted attention online, as social media users responded to the cordial interaction between the two leaders.The gesture came during Modi’s Italy visit, where the two sides are expected to discuss ways to strengthen India-Italy cooperation.

Modi arrived in Rome on Tuesday for the fifth and concluding stop of his five-nation tour, following an invitation from Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. The trip takes place as India and Italy work to further strengthen relations under the Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025-2029, which prioritises collaboration in trade, investment, defence, clean energy, innovation, science and technology, and cultural exchanges.

In 2025, trade between the two nations totaled USD 16.77 billion, while Italy’s cumulative foreign direct investment in India amounted to USD 3.66 billion between April 2000 and September 2025. Prime Minister Modi’s trip to Italy marks the final stop of his five-country tour, which also included the UAE, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Norway.

Before reaching Italy, Modi stopped in Norway during the fourth leg of his tour, having previously visited Sweden, the Netherlands, and the United Arab Emirates.

On Tuesday, India and the Nordic countries formed a Green Technology and Innovation Strategic Partnership to enhance collaboration in fields spanning energy security to digital infrastructure, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leaders of the five Nordic nations highlighted the significance of trust-based relations amid a period of geopolitical volatility and uncertainty.
