On Wednesday,  in the light of COVID-19pandemic, the Supreme Court asked the Central Board of Secondary Examination (CBSE) to address the request for scraping the remaining Board exams planned in July.

CBSE council has been ordered to consult and take advice on the issue of whether marks could be allocated for the remaining subjects based on the internal evaluation, by an apex court bench consisting of Justice AM Khanwilkar, Dinesh Maheshwari, and Sanjeev Khanna.

The next date given by the court is 23rd June.

The parents of the children who were supposed to attend their 12th Board exams between 1-15 July challenged the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and have taken the matter to the apex court.

The petition filed by Rishi Malhotra, a lawyer, claims that 25 other countries where CBSE is present have canceled the exams as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. They further argued that many universities, such as Delhi Universities and leading institutes such as IITs across the country, have also canceled examination due to serious circumstances.

There are many other practical problems related to sending students for exams, as per the petition. The petitioners have argued that some students will face extreme difficulties in moving in containment areas. Having no private vehicle and restrictions put in these zones, it will be very problematic for the student to arrive on time.

The plea seeks guidance for quashing exams as reports show that corona cases are expected to reach its peak in July and August, which creates serious threats for students traveling and attending examinations.
