COVID-19 vaccine: India now third in world with maximum vaccination coverage

55 per cent healthcare workers and nearly 5 per cent frontline workers have been vaccinated in India

India now ranks third country in the world after the USA and the UK in terms of coverage in COVID-19 vaccination among the population.

The Union Health Ministry on Sunday said that India has vaccinated nearly six million of its population so far.

According to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, "As on 7th February, 2021, till 8 a.m., total of 57.75 lakh (57,75,322) beneficiaries have received the Covid-19 vaccine under the countrywide vaccination exercise. The cumulative vaccination coverage includes 53,04,546 healthcare workers and 4,70,776 frontline workers.”

55 per cent healthcare workers and nearly 5 per cent frontline workers have been vaccinated in the country till Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Union ministry also said that 12 states in India have vaccinated more than two lakh beneficiaries each. "In the last 24 hours, 3,58,473 beneficiaries were vaccinated across 8,875 sessions. 1,15,178 sessions have been conducted so far," it added.

The inoculation exercise to administer the first dose of COVID vaccines of started with the healthcare workers first from January 16. The frontline workers started receiving vaccine shots from February 2.

The Union Health Ministry had shared on Saturday that 13 states have covered more than 60 per cent of its healthcare workers in the vaccination drive. Check out which states have completed what per cent of the vaccinations:

· Bihar: 76.6 per cent

· Madhya Pradesh: 76.1 per cent

· Tripura: 76 per cent

· Uttarakhand: 71.5 per cent

· Mizoram: 69.7 per cent

· Uttar Pradesh: 69 per cent

· Kerala: 68.1 per cent

· Odisha: 67.6 per cent

· Rajasthan: 67.3 per cent

· Himachal Pradesh: 66.8 per cent

· Lakshadweep: 64.5 per cent

· Andaman & Nicobar Islands: 62.9 per cent

· Chattisgarh: 60.5 per cent
