Delhi Police have initiated action against social media posts linked to the recent Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-led protests over the alleged NEET-UG paper leak, alleging that several posts contained abusive content, misinformation and material targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Central government.

According to police officials, a special team has been monitoring social media platforms since the Jantar Mantar protests to identify content considered objectionable. Police have written to multiple social media platforms seeking the removal of hundreds of posts and have issued notices under the Information Technology Act as part of the exercise.

Officials said several posts have already been removed, while hundreds remain under review. According to police sources, the flagged content includes alleged AI-generated material, misinformation and abusive posts. Police have not confirmed whether any criminal cases will be registered, saying the matter is still under examination.

The police action comes after the CJP-led protests turned violent on July 20 during a march towards Parliament. Delhi Police said 118 personnel were injured, while the CJP claimed around 150 protesters were hospitalised. The agitation ended following the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Government announces reform panel

Following the protests, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the formation of a high-level committee chaired by technology entrepreneur Nandan Nilekani to recommend measures aimed at strengthening the country's examination system. The committee is expected to examine reforms related to examination processes and recruitment systems.

The police action marks the latest development in the aftermath of the nationwide protests, with authorities maintaining that the review is focused on alleged abusive and misleading online content under existing legal provisions. Neither Delhi Police nor the CJP has released an official figure on the total number of posts removed or still under review.
