Lt Gen Taranjit Singh takes over command of Strike 1

Mathura: Lieutenant General Taranjit Singh assumed command of the elite Strike Corps at Mathura on Friday. An alumni of National Defence Academy, he was commissioned from Indian Military Academy on 19 Dec 1981 into 65 Armoured Regiment. He has had operational experience as part of IPKF in Sri Lanka for two years with the Regiment.

Singh has held varied Command, Instructional and Staff appointments. His Command assignments include command of an Armoured Brigade and General Officer Commanding of RAPID Division part of a Strike  Corps. He has held various staff appointments in United Nations Peace Keeping  Missions  and at Army Headquarters.

He specialises in Mechanised Warfare, and Operational Art. He has served in prestigious Command and Staff appointments in the Indian Army, his last assignment being Director General Recruiting at Integrated Headquarters of Ministry of Defence (Army) New Delhi. 

On assuming command, he exhorted all ranks to continue working with the same zeal, enthusiasm and always be operationally ready to meet the security challenges
