New Delhi: A group of advocates, including several senior lawyers, on Thursday gathered on the lawns of the Supreme Court and read aloud the Preamble to the Constitution in protest against the police action on student demonstrators during the ongoing NEET-UG paper leak protests.

The event was held during the Supreme Court's lunch recess as part of the "Save Democracy, Save Constitution" campaign. Senior Advocates Indira Jaising, Dr S. Muralidhar and Supreme Court Bar Association President Vikas Singh were among those who participated, along with several members of the Bar.

The protest comes days after Delhi Police used force to disperse student demonstrators during the 'Chalo Sansad' march demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged NEET-UG paper leak and examination irregularities.

According to the organisers, the gathering was intended to reaffirm constitutional values and express concern over the police action against peaceful protesters. Participants carried copies of the Constitution and the national flag while reading the Preamble.

The demonstration follows separate statements issued by the Supreme Court Bar Association, the Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association and a group of nearly 650 advocates condemning the police action and seeking an independent inquiry into the incident.

The protest also comes amid continuing political and legal developments surrounding the NEET controversy. Opposition parties have intensified demands for Pradhan's resignation, while the Supreme Court recently declined to urgently hear a plea challenging the police action against student protesters.
