Pune: As Navratri approaches, the festive spirit is palpable in the areas of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad cities. Temples have commenced with vibrant painting, beautification, and decoration efforts. 

Local public festival committees are actively erecting elaborate pandals (pavilions) and displays that will serve as the focal point of the festivities.

A significant part of the preparations is taking place in Sangvi’s Kumbharwada, where artisans are working tirelessly to create beautiful idols of the goddess Durga.

Skilled craftsmen are crafting idols that are three to four feet in height, which are already in high demand from the surrounding areas.

The artisans are renowned for their craftsmanship, and there is an increasing demand for their meticulously designed idols during Navratri.

Many committees place orders for new idols each year, while some prefer to reuse idols from previous years, opting for fresh paint and touch-ups instead of immersion.

Kapil Kumbhar and Nitin Patkar, two of the artisans involved in idol-making, shared insights into their work: “We craft idols based on the orders from the festival committees.

Some committees have retained their idols for years and come to us annually to have them repainted. It's a tradition they uphold, ensuring their idols are well-maintained.”

In addition to the temple preparations, the festive committees are also busy building decorative pavilions for the celebrations. These pavilions not only add grandeur to the event but also create a welcoming environment for worshippers and participants in the celebrations.

As Navratri is one of the most awaited festivals in these areas, both the artisans and festival organizers are working round the clock to ensure the preparations are completed in time. 

The vibrant and meticulously crafted idols, coupled with the grand pavilions, promise to add to the festive spirit, making this year's Navratri celebrations more special than ever.
