Pune, 28 July 2025: Pune city has recorded 357.9 mm rainfall so far this monsoon season, exceeding the expected rainfall for this period by 12%. According to the latest rainfall data released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Pune has already received 112.2% of the rainfall it usually gets from June till now.
The city witnessed a strong start to the monsoon in June, receiving 225.6 mm of rainfall, almost 148% of the tehsil’s average for the month. However, the rainfall trend dipped in July, with only 132.3 mm recorded so far, which is just under 80% of the monthly normal.
Despite this slowdown, the overall rainfall from June onwards remains healthy. Pune’s seasonal monsoon average (June–September) is 605.5 mm, and the city has already received nearly 60% of it by the end of July.
Compared to last year, the rainfall till this date was higher, 549.3 mm, or 172.1% of the expected amount. This year’s figures show that while monsoon activity is active, it’s not as intense as 2024.
While Pune city remains relatively stable, nearby areas like Maval-Wadgaon (228.5% of normal), Bhor (139.3%), and Mulshi Paud (110.4%) have seen very heavy rainfall this season, raising concerns about flooding and runoff in those regions.
Civic officials continue to monitor the situation as August approaches, especially in view of changing rainfall patterns and chances of localised heavy showers in the coming weeks.
