During questioning, it was revealed that the trio had entered India through illegal channels and had been living in Pune for several months. Their activities and connections are now under investigation to determine whether they were involved in any unlawful activities or networks.

The arrested Bangladeshi nationals have been booked under relevant sections of the Foreigners Act, 1946, and the Passport (Entry into India) Rules. Following standard procedure, the police have:

  • Registered formal cases against the accused

  • Informed the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO)

  • Initiated the deportation process in coordination with the Ministry of Home Affairs

The individuals will be held in judicial custody until the completion of legal formalities, after which they will be deported to Bangladesh.

Pune, like many major Indian cities, has seen a rise in cases of illegal immigration in recent years. The city’s economic opportunities, educational institutions, and cosmopolitan environment often attract people from neighboring countries. However, authorities have stepped up vigilance to ensure that all foreign nationals comply with Indian immigration laws.

Regular checks, community awareness drives, and collaboration with central agencies have become key strategies in identifying and addressing illegal stay cases. The latest arrests are part of a broader effort to strengthen border security and uphold the rule of law.

Illegal immigration poses several challenges for urban centers:

  • Security Risks: Unregulated movement of foreign nationals can create vulnerabilities and complicate law enforcement efforts.

  • Resource Strain: Unauthorized residents may put pressure on local resources, services, and infrastructure.

  • Social Integration: Lack of documentation can hinder integration and access to basic rights, increasing the risk of exploitation.

Authorities stress that while India remains welcoming to legal immigrants and refugees, strict action will be taken against those who circumvent the legal process.

Local residents in Katraj have welcomed the police action, expressing relief that the authorities are taking steps to ensure neighborhood safety. Civic leaders have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation in maintaining law and order.

The Pune police have reiterated their commitment to ongoing surveillance and enforcement against illegal immigration. Investigations are underway to determine if the arrested individuals were part of a larger network or if others are similarly residing illegally in the city.

Authorities have also called for public awareness about the importance of proper documentation for all foreign nationals, encouraging landlords and employers to verify the credentials of tenants and workers.
