Pune: The much-awaited Pune Metro route from Swargate to the District Court was inaugurated on Sunday (September 29). The extension has already proven popular, with an impressive 17,470 passengers using the service on its first day of operation between 4 PM and 11 PM.

MahaMetro has successfully completed the 17.5-kilometer line from Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to Swargate and the 14.5-kilometer line from Vanaz to Ramwadi.

The final section, connecting Swargate to the District Court, went live on Sunday, marking a milestone in Pune's metro network expansion. With this latest extension, metro ridership surged to a daily average of 157,000 passengers on Sunday.

The PCMC to Swargate route now takes just 34 minutes, while the Vanaz to Ramwadi route can be covered in 37 minutes.

Citizens are now urging MahaMetro to further increase the frequency of trains and extend the operating hours. Currently, the metro service runs from 6 AM to 10 PM on both the PCMC-Swargate and Vanaz-Ramwadi lines.

However, according to officials from MahaMetro, the agency responsible for Pune’s metro services, extending operations beyond the current schedule of 10 PM is not feasible due to essential maintenance and technical procedures that need to be conducted overnight.

New Timetable for Both Routes:

PCMC to Swargate:

  • During off-peak hours (6 AM to 8 AM, 11 AM to 4 PM, and 8 PM to 10 PM), trains will arrive every 10 minutes.

  • In peak hours (8 AM to 11 AM and 4 PM to 8 PM), the frequency will increase to one train every 7 minutes.

Vanaz to Ramwadi:

  • Similarly, trains will run every 10 minutes during off-peak times and every 7 minutes during peak hours.
