Pune, 3rd September 2025: The Pune–Nashik highway is set for a major revamp. The 30-kilometer stretch from Nashik Phata to Rajgurunagar (Khed) will soon take just 20 minutes to travel instead of the current 90 to 120 minutes.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is handling the project. Tenders will be opened on September 25, but work can only start once 90 percent of land acquisition is completed. Officials said construction will begin immediately after land is cleared.

The project requires 14 hectares of land. Nearly 10 hectares fall under PMRDA’s limits across seven villages, Nanekarwadi, Waki Khurd, Waki Budruk, Chimbli, Kuruli, Medankarwadi, and parts of Chakan. About 150 landowners are affected.

Land is being acquired through Transferable Development Rights (TDR), Floor Space Index (FSI) benefits, and direct purchase. In Pimpri-Chinchwad, most land in Bhosari and Moshi has already been secured using TDR and FSI.

The project cost is estimated at ₹7,827 crore. It will widen the existing highway and add an elevated road to ease congestion, especially on the busy Pune–Chakan–MIDC stretch.

At a recent meeting chaired by the Chief Minister, officials assured that most land acquisition will be done by October, clearing the way for work to start soon.

This highway upgrade comes alongside several other projects in Pune. Road widening is underway from Balewadi to Shedge Vasti, Surya Hospital to Thakar Vasti, and Nande–Maan Road.

Work on the Pune Ring Road is also progressing, with land acquisition nearly complete in several stretches. Together, these projects promise smoother connectivity, less congestion, and stronger support for Pune’s industrial and residential growth.
