Pune, 15 August 2025: Savitribai Phule Pune University has approved a policy allowing temporarily promoted admissions for students who fail in the 2024–25 winter (October–November 2024) and summer (April–May 2025) examinations. The move applies to all faculties and courses from first to third year, second to fourth year, and third to fifth year, depending on the course structure.
Under the scheme, first-year students with backlogs can be admitted to the fifth semester of the third year, second-year students to the seventh semester of the fourth year, and third-year students to the ninth semester of the fifth year. These students will be required to clear their pending subjects in the subsequent exams, which will be held alongside the summer session of 2025–26.
The university has clarified that if students fail to clear their previous year’s backlogs during the stipulated period, their temporary admission will be cancelled automatically, making them ineligible for further progression. This decision was taken by the university’s authorities after considering demands from student groups.
The Maharashtra Pradesh Youth Congress had staged a strong protest at the university on Thursday, pressing for this relaxation to help students continue their studies despite academic setbacks.
